Over 1.4 million Tennesseans — more than 1 in 5 — live in rural communities with limited access to consistent healthcare.93 out of 95 counties in Tennessee are officially designated as healthcare shortage areas, meaning access to doctors, dentists, and mental health providers is critically limited. Rural hospital closures continue to rise — Tennessee has lost 16 rural hospitals since 2010, one of the highest rates in the nation. More than half of rural women in Tennessee live over 30 minutes from a birthing hospital, creating serious risks for maternal and infant health. Rural heart disease death rates are 51% higher than in urban areas — a clear sign that access to preventative care is failing communities.
About The American Rural Health Alliance
American Rural Health Alliance brings together government leaders, healthcare providers, employers, and communities to strengthen healthcare access across rural America.

OUR MISSION
To expand healthcare access and strengthen rural healthcare systems through public-private collaboration.

Our Approach
The Alliance serves as a bridge between the public healthcare infrastructure and private sector employers, helping communities explore innovative healthcare solutions that benefits its' residence.
The Rural Health Care Alliance brings together healthcare providers, employers, policymakers, community leaders, and industry partners to solve the challenges no single organization can solve alone.
Rather than creating another program, we build strategic partnerships that improve access to care, strengthen rural healthcare systems, support healthier workforces, and accelerate innovative solutions that benefit entire communities.
Why This Matters
Rural communities face increasing pressure, and healthcare providers are being asked to do more with less every day. Rural hospitals, clinics and healthcare organizations face mounting pressures and rising costs that threaten their ability to deliver quality care.

Limited Patient Access to Care

Rising Healthcare Costs

Increasing Chronic Disease

Strain on Local Hospitals with Critical Workforce Shortages
The Alliance helps address these challenges by encouraging collaboration and supporting new healthcare initiatives.
